An ISS spokesperson told press the switch was made because ISS astronauts and cosmonauts needed an operating system “that was stable and reliable.” Ouch!

  1. Pretty cool, although I’m not entirely sure why why it was linux in particular. I would have thought that any Unix variation (including a Mac) would have met the stability requirement. Also not sure why they picked Debian over something more user-friendly like Ubuntu or Mint.

    Any thoughts?
